Long Range Navigation (LORAN)

LORAN which is a ground based navigation system is used to calculate FMS position. It is the least used position system today and will possibly be phased out. LORAN could possibly be used as a back up to the GPS system.

FMS systems calculate position by triangulating position information from LORAN stations.
