Distance Measuring Equipment (DME)

Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) stations are used to calculate position by constantly scanning multiple DME stations at once and at regular intervals throughout a flight. The FMS calculates position algebraiclly. Most FMS systems are capable of scanning up to 5 DME stations at any partucular time.

FMS DME sensor inputs must be used in conjuction with "scanning type" DME systems or "digital" DME systems.
